My spouse often jokingly calls me a corporate cog and that I aspire to be king/queen of the cogs. I am in the middle layer of the corporate ladder which is a rather large vacuum of positions. Of the corporate structures I've seen, the lower layer are typically comprised of front line employees such as sales staff, analysts, processing staff, etc. The middle layer runs from senior manager, various levels of directors, and sometimes SVPs depending on how inflated the top layer is. The top layer is of course your SVPs, VPs, C-level executives. Typically you would imagine this ladder to be a pyramid-like shape. But I've come to realize that it depends upon the organization. I have seen companies be "top heavy" and have a structure that seems more like a dumbbell. Let's just say that the "dumb" in dumbbell has a whole new meaning if your company has this kind of structure.
Anyway, now that there's a little about me, I'd rather go into what this blog is about. I felt like just blogging about interesting data and findings that I feel I can't share in my role but I think worth sharing to world for those interested in business and corporate life.
Pew Research is one of my fave sources for learning about new data in various industries. Social Media has been one of my recent interests and they just came out with the 2014 percentage of online adults using social media platforms by age group, which I found interesting. I created two charts based on age groups. What I found interesting was where you can see the growth of the age groups for certain platforms and how Facebook is growing in all age groups but the 30-49 which may be due to the high saturation in that market already. For more of the actual data, check out: http://www.pewinternet.org/2015/01/09/social-media-update-2014/
I might make more fun charts based on this later if I feel like it.
